Born in 1994, Nicolas Martin has been passionate about the violin since he was very young. He began playing at the age of five at the Académie de Nivelles, under the inspiring guidance of Daniel Jacot. His musical career quickly took him to the stage: in 2005, he represented the Academy in Sweden with the United Chamber Orchestra. A three-time winner of the prestigious national 'Prix Rotary Breughel' competition, Nicolas was notably awarded first prize in 2006.
His musical career has been rich and varied: a member of the Nivelles Symphony Orchestra from 2007 to 2011, he also performs chamber music, exploring both classical and original ensembles, combining, for example, the accordion and the marimba. He spent four years honing his skills under Otto Derolez, concertmaster of the Brussels Philharmonic, and was recognised as a prize-winner at the 'Bravo!' international competition in 2011.
At the start of his professional career, Nicolas found himself faced with a dilemma: whether to pursue a career as a violinist, which lay within his grasp, or to embark on a demanding academic path. This difficult but carefully considered choice led him to opt for an academic career at UCLouvain. Now a dentist specialising in restorative dentistry and endodontics, as well as a secondary school science teacher, Nicolas nevertheless continues to nurture his passion for music. Since his student days at UCLouvain, he has been actively involved with the OSEL, where he now holds the key position of concertmaster.
